Got My Kicks on Route 66
Wicked Fun!!!
The Route 66 Marathon in Tulsa, OK, was my 50th overall marathon (40th state in my 50 states quest) and my fastest one this year.
I'll spare you another lengthy race report and make this one short & sweet. 3 marathons and 2 half iron tris the past two months is getting a bit ridiculous, isn't it?
Great cold weather. A mostly flat out-and-back course on historic Route 66, along the Arkansas River and through Jenks America, home of the Oklahoma Aquarium. Nice entertainment at various spots along the way. Only real hills were miles 23-25. Evil!

My plan: Just run and see what happens. No camera (during race). No marathon until January.

Results:
3:51:20 (8:50 avg pace), 5/52 F45-49
1st half 1:55:09, 2nd half 1:56:11
Not bad!

Way to go Shirley!! I am getting tired just trying to keep track of your journey. You are like the energizer bunny.
Totally awesome, your crushed another race.. I can't imagine running that fast for a full marathon.. in other words,I just can't imagine running that fast LOL Your not just the Energizer bunny your the Road Runner :D and than some.
Wow.. that's an amazing time! And I love your splits. Enjoy the off season now!
Very nice!
Is it possible to run 50 states' marathons all in one year? Surely that would get you in the Guinness Book of Records.
Well, I guess we are all creatures of habit. I can do my swims each morning and think nothing of it, though I probably could not do running.
You must be incredibly fit now.
Very well done Shirley!!
Very nice!
But those hills at the very end?!?! What kind of evil person designed that course!!
EXCELLENT work, Shirley!!!! I love your "long" race reports, by the way.
You were so fast! You showed those hills who's boss. :)
Congratulations!! Too many numbers, Route 66, 50 marathons,40 states, 3:51:20 :-) Exceptional coming off the half-Ironman last weekend. I'm glad you're taking some time off until January.
Wow, Shirley...you amaze me!! Congratulations on another GREAT race :-)
Congrats..way to run the second half....especially with those hills (looking at the elevation map)
Awesome time Shirley!! Yes those hills at the end are nothing but EVIL. Hope the concrete didn't bother you too much. Tulsa was my first marathon ever last year and I will never forget it.
Congrats.
I am so happy for you and your accomplishments. You are amazing! I wanna be like you when I grow up!
WOW you are so amazing!!!! CONGRATS on such a great race!!
YOure amazing...you inspire me to run...this fish doesnt run fast but you inspire me to run faster.
:0)
Nice job Shirley! You've been so busy. 40 states down, 10 to go! That elevation profile looks so mean. Who puts hills in at miles 23 - 25?
Congratulations Shirley, you are steady as a rock. Now what the heck will you do until January?
You Rock Girlie!
Oh yeah, you totally deserve some ice cream and a nap. :o)
Great run! Congrats on the great finish.
Congratulations! Awesome job.
Yea, Shirley! What a quest on the 50 states. I just went and looked you already did Texas, Boo!
Those hills at the end what torture...
Get rested and recover well :-)
Looking forward to January!!!
I'm still trying to decide if the photo of you looking all smiley and relaxed after the race is motivational, or demoralizing 'coz you make it look so easy!!
Seriously - if you didn't have the medal around your neck, I'd assume that you were waiting for it to start!
Nicely done!
Fanstic time!
I used to live off Route 66 (in California though).
You are incredible and proof that the body sure can take on more than most think! Congratulations on not only an awesome feat, but a great race!
Awesome job !!
Once again you take the pressure off and whoops! Look at your time! What a woman you are. Enjoy a bit of a break now - time to start baking a pumpkin pie...
YOU ARE AMAZING!!!! Really!! The time was insane considering how busy you have been with other events.
UNREAL!!! Congrats!! Now have a beer :)
"Not bad"????? It's SUPER!!! Sure, just run and see what happens, no plan, and run your fastest marathon of the year. Sounds like a plan to follow again!
Go to bed, girl. You're making me tired! That is awesome!
When I am lying on the side of the road this weekend at Mile 20 of The Monkey, I am going to remember this post and how you kicked butt to 23rd mile warm-up before some hill work.
Great Job!
YOU are a total stud! Best one of the year the last one, amazing! AND 40!!! YOU are totally going to hit 50 soon!

You've been busy! congrats on hitting the big 50 on marathons...
Great Job Shirley! You did so good your second half being so close to your first half times considering your hills were at the end. That is a testimet to your strength. I'm off to dream of a sub-4 marathon someday!
I got an appointment for a deep tissue sport massage on Wednesday! WHOOOT! Thanks for the suggestion.
Way to go Shirley. Make it 41 posts :)
