More Montana Trip Photos

Yes, the camera was busy this trip! I actually flew into Salt Lake City, UT, and drove 7.5 hours up to Missoula, MT. Why? Because I enjoy driving and haven't seen northern Utah, much of Idaho or Montana before. Plus, my (step) daughter and her husband live in the SLC area. So it was a chance to see them and more of that part of the country, all while escaping FL heat and humidity for a little longer :-)

Unfortunately, husband Dave couldn't come along, though he wanted to, because he already had business trips to San Diego, Washington DC and Seattle (in that order) during the same time I'd be gone. Here's what he missed:

Hello Montana!

Pretty Clark Reservoir. Where's my wetsuit?

Bison?  Bull ... It was in the same spot on the return trip too.

Rolling pastures.

Clark Fork showing me the way to Missoula.

A famous festival held July 30-August 3 this year. Darn, I would miss it ...

In Missoula, Clark Fork gets pretty big and goes right through town.

A closer look at the river after picking up my race packet at the expo nearby.

Guys trying to paddle UP rapids in short stubby kayaks. Man vs. Nature and Nature was usually winning.

The fish I caught on this trip. Really big ones, too.

Me and the kids who both tower over me so best to be sitting down. Last time I saw them was last Thanksgiving. Great to see them again!

Official Missoula Marathon race photos are now available and can be found here, if anyone is interested. Sorry, looks as if I took a Happy Pill that morning.

Those are GORGEOUS photos. I've never been out that way, but might get a chance this summer! (Now that I've seen what I'm missing, I might work a little harder to make it happen!) Thanks for sharing those.

Probably good that you are in Montana in July. Thanks very much for your very interesting comment. I did all the Peaman races from 2002-2007 so may have seen you without realizing it. We don't have a retirement place there yet but it is something to think about and aim for (possibly on another island). My swimming training continues, although I think at my age, I need a lot of rest. I just cannot push hard all the time. Your traveling to do various races impresses me. I have often wanted to do something like that in Japan, and hopefully next year will make a start. I guess I will get back into biking and running, and hopefully will start by ordering the parts for a bike later this year.

Shirley,

Those were good pics. I like to drive for long as well. Perhaps this has to do from riding long.

Glad u had some time to enjoy w/ your daughter :)

The pictures are beautiful. If I could live anywhere, it would be in a place like that (minus the sub-zero weather, but I don't think I can get both!).

Wow! Postcard perfect! Nice to be able to visit family AND get another state checked off!

Damn! I wish you had been able to get shots of the Testicle Festival! That has to be a hoot!

How do you look so great in all your running shots? So jealous of your immense cuteness!

Umm... Err... Out here in the West, we place things like buffalo/bison and fish statues in conspicuous places so visitors can say they saw them.

Once in Wyoming near Flaming Gorge reservoir, I took the bike into a bike shop for a last minute tune-up. I no sooner walked in the door, when the tech looked at me and said, "I charge a lot extra to clean cow poop off your bike!" Wow, I thought. How rude.

He tuned the bike and told us about Dowd Mountain. A nice loop trail around a mountain that looks down into the reservoir. We decided to take it.

It was a great trail! Took about 3 hours to get most of the way around. We turned a corner and there was a large herd of cows. We must have surprised them as, in unison, they all reared up and started pooping at once. It was a large amount of stuff that covered everything in sight. We had to ride through or walk through. We rode.

We cleaned the bikes ourselves, even though I was so tempted to take it back to the same \bike shop. When I took the clothes into a laundry, I expected that tech to look at us and say, "I charge extra to clean..."

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!
